You can’t even have dinner with your family without being interrupted by your business. You missed your child’s recital. You haven’t had more than one day to yourself in four years, and even when you try to take a vacation, it’s not really a vacation, because your manager calls every day to check in and get your approval. The real problem usually isn’t your team or your to-do list. It’s that documenting business processes never made it onto the list at all.Â
Back to your business. Why you started, and how things got so crazy.Â
You are the face of your business. You are involved in every part, from selling to keeping the books to hiring, and when there’s an issue or a decision, you are the final say. Your entire team relies on you.Â
Let me tell you, that is exhausting. You didn’t build your business to be on all the time. You built it to provide a service, fill a need, sell a product, not to work every single day making decisions your team could be making instead.Â
I’ve run every aspect of my own business, so much so that trying to take a weekend off took me a month to plan. And even when I was off, I still got calls, questions, and decisions that needed to be made. It was exhausting.Â
Systems. Training. The right staff. And getting back to your why, the reason you started your business in the first place. It’s all still there. You just need to get it back.Â
You are busy because your processes aren’t built. Everything your team needs to know is stuck in your head. It needs to come out and get into a document. That’s not leaving your business behind. That’s running it smarter.
I don’t do one-size-fits-all. I focus on documenting what your business actually needs to run without you in every room.
